OzRant: High-Volume Softness...

Note - from June 24th 2009, this blog has migrated from Blogger to a self-hosted version. Click here to go straight there.

The broad market - the ASX All Ordinaries (XAO) - fell by 28.70 points (-0.62%), finishing at 4569.50 points. The index hit an intraday high of 4621.90 (at 10:30 a.m. - how typical) and its low of 4568.2 was set just minutes before the close. Sadly there was no opportunity to try and ride the SPI today - no valid signals means no entries: it's as simple as that.

Total volume traded on the ASX was 1.08 billion units, a solid 14.7% above its 10-day average. Of the 487 stocks in the index, 170 fell while 127 managed a gain. Volume was tilted in favour of the losers by a margin of 2.8:1, with 454.83million shares traded in losers while 161.84million shares traded in the day's gainers.

The Index that forms the cash basis for the SFE's Share Price Index Futures - the S&P/ASX 200 (XJO) - fell by 31.30 points (-0.67%), finishing at 4622.90 points.
