NonRant: OK, So Get This...

Note - from June 24th 2009, this blog has migrated from Blogger to a self-hosted version. Click here to go straight there.

Just when you thought that we would be resuming Rants-mission, all of a sudden GT falls off the planet for another month. WTF, I hear you musing (seriously, you muse WAY too loud).

This time I have a reason (as distinct from an excuse) which is so iron-clad that it would, in the ordinary course of events, be called Ironsides or something of that genre. In any case, it would have a nickname that would imply iron-clad-ness or cladding of some type with an extremely high concentration of Fe.

My reason for non-posting, is that I was in a detention centre. In France. Surrounded by Albanians, Algerians, Morrocans, Senegalese, Congolese, Bolivian, Bangladeshi and other inmates. All of whom (including the police) were astounded to find an Australian in their midst.

Turns out that the Frogs have started taking their immigration rules seriously - even for white middle class types like your old mate GT. So I got nabbed, spent two weeks in a detention centre, then got flown out of Frogland with a 2-Frog escort (both top blokes) - with a standing invitation to return immediately if I wanted... which I did, of course.

In fact, having an Aussie in a detention centre was so bizarre that I got mentioned on three different TV stations. A veritable black sheep.

So the Froggish State spent (wasted) about $30k sending me and two of it's finest plodders to Bangkok (and me on to Oz) in full knowledge that I would return almost immediately. Which I did. they could have sent me to Pomland, re-set the clock, and spent about $150... but economising is not the name of the game.

Anyhow... have been back in Frogland after ten days or so in Oz, and once you add ten days in Oz to fifteen days in the Gulag Archipelago, that comes to 25 days. Add in jet-lag and you're up to a month.

Of course there is a silver lining. I am reasonably sure that I am going to buy InvestorWeb (my old stomping ground) so long as I can get it for under $2.5 million.
