Some time ago - I think it was around 2001, but it might have been slightly later - I saw two pieces of evidence that were the perfect evidence as to why Alan Greenspan had to become a bureaucrat: had he not made the decision to suckle at the public teat, he risked starving to death in an alley.
Those who recall the ancient history of the old HotCopper days, will recall that prior to 2000 I was putting the boot into Greenspan for his belief in Y2K (as well as for being a complete ignoramus and a hack). But his stupidity goes back decades further than that.
Anyway - as I say... two pieces of compelling evidence as to why Greenspan's attempt at a private-sector consultancy fell apart and went bust. You could not get it more wrong if you actually could see into the future and you wanted to bankrupt your clients.
