The broad market - the ASX All Ordinaries (XAO) - rose by 7.60 points (0.17%), finishing at 4576.30 points. After bouncing off its opening level (whic halso turned out to be the session low), the All Ords rose to an intraday high of 4583.50 just after 1 p.,m. (that was the third time it had touched the 4583 level, and it was also the SPISpy's declared shorting time - see "SPIRant: What You Missed..." below). Unfortunately the spurt into the close that I expected (it's all laid out in the post I linked to just now) stalled big-time; if multi-lotters had ignored my "exit all" e-mail update they would have pocketed anotehr ten SPI points from the short's renewed downward thrust. Still, the SPISpy added (4,8,10) to the RantRecord, so we mustn't second guess history.
Total volume traded on the ASX was just over 1 billion units, 4.3% below its 10-day average. Of the 487 stocks in the index, 157 rose while 124 fell.
